Introducing The Governors

I am a Co-opted Governor with a daughter in Year 11.  I am a former secondary Headteacher and was head of school improvement at Derby City Council before retiring from full-time work.  I currently work part-time for the Derby Education Improvement Partnership which is a collaboration between all the city’s secondary and special schools.

Paul Davies

Co-opted governor

I gained a degree in Chemistry from Aston university  in 1971 and then worked in the plastics and rubber industry for 20 years. I then retrained as a teacher and taught in a number of schools in Birmingham and Derby.

After retiring from teaching I was elected as a councillor for the Mackworth ward where I served a four year term. During my time as a councillor I joined the governing body of Murray Park.

I am married and have two grown up children and four young grandchildren.

Derrick Tuplin

Local Authority governor

I have spent the last 20 years looking after my 3 children all who have been or are at Murray Park. The oldest is now in her last year of university studying a BSC in child nursing, my son has left this year and has gone on to study A levels at 6th form and my youngest is in Year 9.

I have a strong interest in SEN and pupil welfare at the school and have just become the link governor for inclusion. I have been involved with a number of student panels and interviews. Over the past year I have been on a number of training courses to further my knowledge in this area.

Fiona Williams

Parent governor

I have worked for 10 years full time prior to having my children. I now work part time and have done so for the last 17 years. Working part time has given me the opportunity to be involved with my children and their school. I have one child who has just completed GCSE’s at Murray Park and is now pursuing a chosen career path at college and my second child is currently in Year 9.

Jayne Warner

Parent governor

I am a retired Director of Works Southern Derbyshire District Health Authority and Director of Works and Facilities Manager (Full Board Member) for the Derby City Hospital Trust / Royal Derby Hospital. I was previously a school governor at Littleover Community School and have now been Chair of the Governor Body of Murray Park School for 4 years.

Joe Sim

Partnership governor and Chair of the Governing Body

I am a professional engineer and worked at Rolls-Royce for over 30 years. During my career I carried out a number of roles including leading large teams of engineers and programme managers in delivering capital projects around the world. Both of my children have attended Murray Park School, the youngest finishing in year 11 in 2013.

Brian Stephenson

Partnership governor

I am a psychologist-in-training with a son in year 8. I have spent 20 years within IT, first as a programmer with Rolls-Royce and later with HP and am now studying at the University of Derby where I am building a speciality in health psychology. I currently volunteer with the guided reading programme at the school and help the university deliver its Widening Participation programme to schools across the region, including the hugely success Maths Raising The Grade year 11 revision activity.

Jacqui Fowler

Parent Governor

I am now retired and have always been involved with the education of my children from my eldest 30 year old son to my youngest 12 year olf. From PTA Chair to parent governor sitting on the finance and recruitment sub committees.

I bring with me experience of parent governing and 22 years as a warehouse, customer service and service department manager overseeing 29 employee. I am patient, hopefully easy to approach and a very good listener, who is not afraid to ask questions when I donot understand what is going on.

Ian Bennett

Parent Governor

My first job was in research with the Institute of Occupational Medicine (National Coal Board), but I realised that teaching was something I just had to do. I trained for Secondary, Biology/ Maths, moved into Further Education, (to work part time when my children were small) and then Higher Education. I taught Biology, Psychology, PE (theory), Health and Social Care (A level to undergraduate) then Teacher Training, postgraduate and Education Leadership. I was briefly an Ofsted inspector, and led Middle Leadership for the National College for School Leadership. I have spent 37 years teaching, learning, leading, studying and enjoyed it all, time to give something back.

Jo Pickering
