Y9 Lesson Content

Skills: What employability skills the students need, using the Skills Builder framework

What I am good at and what I like: Subjects that the students are currently studying – which should they choose / not choose for GCSE

Qualifications and Jobs: What jobs link to different subjects, what qualifications you can gain Post 16.

Decision making: How and why to make appropriate decisions, what might influence the decisions

Using the careers section school website: Links to interactive quizzes related to interests, aptitudes and skills

Careerpilot: Create an account, complete the test and work out which job sectors might be appropriate depending on individual skills and qualities.

The lessons incorporate the use of Skills Builder – a programme designed to help students understand what we mean by the eight different employability skills we teach them about (Listening, speaking, problem solving, creativity, staying positive, aiming high, leadership and teamwork).  Each year, students work through progressively more complex examples of what each skill means, to develop their knowledge and understanding of what employers expect.

The programme of study is enhanced by enrichment activities organised within the school curriculum. Students can also attend a variety of extra-curricular activities.
