Y11 Lesson Content

Skills: Further development of the eight employability skills at a higher level

Using the Careers Section on the school website: Links to 6th Forms, FE and apprenticeships, help with applications

Careerpilot and Post 16 Options: Use of the Careerpilot website to further investigate job sectors and qualifications Post 16

CVs: Development of a high quality CV using Barclay’s Life Skills website.

Labour Market Information: Hot and cold jobs, how and why the world of work is changing

Positive Personal Presentation: What you need to do to make a good impression at an interview

Travelling: Whether to go into HE / a job sector from home or move away

Social Media: The pros and cons of social media in the world of work

The lessons incorporate the use of Skills Builder – a programme designed to help students understand what we mean by the eight different employability skills we teach them about (Listening, speaking, problem solving, creativity, staying positive, aiming high, leadership and teamwork).  Each year, students work through progressively more complex examples of what each skill means, to develop their knowledge and understanding of what employers expect.

The programme of study is enhanced by enrichment activities organised within the school curriculum.  Students can also attend a variety of extra-curricular activities.

Post 16 Transition

Post 16 Evening: School holds an annual Post 16 Evening where representatives from the local 6th Forms, Colleges and Apprenticeship and Training Providers are represented along with Derby University.

College and Training Provider Visits: Some students are taken on organised visits to College and Apprenticeship and Training Providers.

Post 16 information: The school website is regularly updated with the latest information about College and 6th Form applications, Apprenticeship and Training provider opportunities.

Virtual Opportunities: Students and parents are regularly updated about ‘Virtual Opportunities’ – work experience, webinars, visits etc.
