Charity Involvement at Murray Park School

At Murray Park School, giving back to others is at the heart of our community. Our charity work unites students, staff, and families, offering valuable opportunities to develop leadership skills, show compassion, and take meaningful action to improve lives both locally and globally.

Our Chosen Charities

African Adventures & Derby County Community Trust
We are proud to partner with African Adventures and the Derby County Community Trust to support impactful projects both abroad and here at home. Through African Adventures, students raise funds that help build and improve schools and community facilities in Kenya. These efforts foster empathy, resilience, and a deep sense of global responsibility. Some of our older students have the unique opportunity to visit Kenya, where they take part in volunteering projects, experience the difference their fundraising makes, and gain life-changing perspectives.

Alongside this, our collaboration with Derby County Community Trust ensures part of our fundraising supports local charities and projects in Derbyshire, strengthening our commitment to the community right here at home.

Murray Park School Food Bank
Locally, our school food bank plays a vital role in supporting families facing hardship. Students help collect and organise donations, especially during winter and times of increased need. This hands-on involvement cultivates respect, kindness, and a strong moral compass, encouraging students to understand and respond to social challenges in their own community.

Student Leadership in Charity Work

Charity initiatives at Murray Park are truly student-led. Our School Parliament is at the centre of planning and promoting events, gathering ideas, and encouraging participation across all year groups. Our Prefects lead on delivering these events, managing stalls, collecting donations, and raising awareness during assemblies and form time.

Recent fundraising activities have included:

  • School discos

  • ‘Sponge the Teacher’ events

  • Non-uniform and themed dress-up days

  • Bake sales and charity fairs

These events not only raise vital funds but also build confidence, independence, and teamwork. They embody our school values — students demonstrate perseverance in organising activities, respect for those they support, and excellence in representing Murray Park School.

Building Character and Citizenship Through Charity

Our charity involvement is a vital part of our spiritual, moral, social, and cultural development (SMSC) programme. It encourages students to:

  • Reflect on their role in a wider world

  • Understand the difference between right and wrong

  • Collaborate effectively to create positive change

  • Appreciate and celebrate diverse cultures and experiences

Through these experiences, students grow into responsible, active citizens with ambition, empathy, and integrity. They don’t just help others; they develop the values and skills that prepare them for success in life beyond school.
